Sanitarium Weet-Bix™ Awarded First People's Choice Blue Plaque by Heritage NSW
Weet-Bix, made by Sanitarium Health Food Company on the NSW Central Coast, has today made history with the iconic breakfast food and its company announced by the NSW Department of Environment & Heritage as the first People’s Choice Blue Plaque Award recipient for the introduction of Weet-Bix to Australia.
“Sanitarium is honoured to be named as both the first company and first product to receive a prestigious NSW Heritage Blue Plaque, and for that achievement to be topped with another first – named the inaugural recipient of the first People’s Choice Blue Plaque,” shared Todd Saunders, Executive General Manager Sanitarium Health Food Company ANZ.
“Sanitarium Weet-Bix was born out of our company’s commitment to producing healthy, delicious and nutritious food for Australians. The People’s Choice Blue Plaque is a remarkable accomplishment that recognises the impact of those aspirations nearly 97 years on, and the appreciation Australians have for this now iconic breakfast cereal which offers a delicious and nutritious way to fuel their day.”
Voted by the public, and today named amongst 16 people and events which have been most influential in shaping our State, the Sanitarium Weet-Bix Blue Plaque will be installed at 1 Sanitarium Drive Berkeley Vale where the bulk of the nutritious breakfast cereal is now manufactured, alongside other Aussie-adored products including So Good and UP&GO.
“Aussie Kids truly are Weet-Bix kids, and we thank our loyal Weet-Bix consumers who have driven this campaign for Sanitarium to receive such a pivotal accolade for the ‘Introduction of Weet-Bix’ to Australia. It has been a privilege to share this achievement with our wider Sanitarium team today and also thank them for the work they do to bring Weet-Bix to Australian breakfast tables across the country,” Mr Saunders said.
Head of Marketing & Communications ANZ for Sanitarium Health Food Company Jessica Manihera, said the Weet-Bix team will be celebrating the accolade announcement with a bowl of the iconic cereal.
“Weet-Bix has been a staple breakfast choice in Aussie households for decades. Helping to fuel growing Aussie kids to get the most out of every day is part of the Weet-Bix legacy, with each new generation adding to the story and shaping the brand’s future, and this vote is recognition of the cross-generational impact,” said Jessica Manihera.
“We are immensely grateful for the Aussie kids, young and old, who have vouched for this nomination for Weet-Bix. We are so grateful to have been awarded the trifecta - as not only the first product, first company, and also the first people’s choice recommendation to be recognised for this prestigious blue plaque, we sincerely thank you. The love that Australian consumers have had for Weet-Bix has continued to grow for nearly a century and we are proud to say our brand love is as strong as ever. The Weet-Bix team is delighted to become a part of the history of this state, and we promise we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure every Australian has this nutritious breakfast option into the future.”
Following Council approvals and installation, a special unveiling ceremony for the Weet-Bix Blue Plaque will take place.
“Weet-Bix is a quintessential part of Australian culture, and I’m thrilled it has been recognised with the inaugural People’s Choice blue plaque,” said NSW Minister for the Central Coast and Member for Wyong David Harris.
