3.4 million Aussie households experienced food insecurity in the last 12 months

"This year’s report highlights the growing divide between those who are able to absorb or adapt to rising costs and those being left behind… We know recovery from the cost-of-living crisis will take years, not months, and we will continue to wrap our arms around our communities for as long as it takes, doing our part in getting nutritious, culturally appropriate food to as many food insecure households as possible." Brianna Casey, CEO, Foodbank Australia

The annual Hunger Report from our partner and Australia’s largest food relief agency, Foodbank Australia, highlights the confronting reality of food insecurity for an increasing number of Aussies.

According to the latest 2024 report, 3.4-million Australian households experienced some level of food security in the last year, ranging from worry or anxieties about food running out to extremes like going full days without eating. Of these 3.4-million households, 2 million are experiencing severe food insecurity at the highest rate since the onset of the cost-of-living crisis.

We’ve partnered with Foodbank since 2001 to help school kids have full tummies so they can learn to their full potential through the School Breakfast Program and since 2010 to put food on the table for Aussies in need through the Collaborative Supply Program.
