Apple and almond crumble

    A slight twist on this old classic dessert provides a real treat for those who are lactose/dairy free and vegan.

    Ingredients

    • 1 800g canned apples or stewed apples
    • ¼ cup sultanas
    Crumble
    • ⅓ cup wholemeal plain flour
    • ⅓ cup white plain flour
    • ⅓ cup almond meal
    • ¼ cup sugar
    • 80g margarine
    • ¼ cup flaked almonds

    Method

    1. Combine apples and sultanas in an ovenproof dish.
    2. Sift flours into a bowl. Add sugar and almond meal.
    3. Rub margarine into flour mixture. Sprinkle crumble and flaked almonds over apple.
    4. Bake in a moderate oven, 180°C, for 40 minutes or until golden.

    Tips

    • To create an indulgent gluten free dessert, simply replace the wholemeal and white plain flour with gluten free plain flour.
    Remember to always check the label of each ingredient to ensure it is gluten free.
