We’ve introduced new Marmite™ jars made from 100% recycled plastic (rPET) as part of Sanitarium's efforts to improve the sustainability of our packaging.
Recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate plastic) is very sustainable as it can be recycled over and over, helping drive the circular economy, diverting waste from landfill and curbing the need to use virgin plastic.
We’ve also reduced the weight of the durable HDPE (high-density polyethylene) plastic in our Marmite lids. The introduction of rPET and the lighter lid will reduce the amount of virgin plastic in the environment by over 40 tonnes per year.
Made in Auckland, the new jars also feature the Australasian Recycling Label, an evidence-based system that helps you identify how to recycle the packaging correctly through the use of simple icons. On Marmite this label also highlights to consumers that both the jar and the lid are recyclable through kerbside recycling, making Marmite 100% recyclable.

All you need to do is give the jars and lids a thorough rinse (and dry!) before putting them in your kerbside bin. Check with your local council whether the lids should be left on or off.
